The success story of "Zomato : Never have a bad meal"
A good meal a day keeps all the tensions away! Food is something that can make our day when we are having a long day. After work, when we get back home and have good food, that takes 80% of our tensions away. Imagine a good piece of Gulabjamun or a cheesy slice of pizza after a tiring day; sounds fantastic, right?
Well, it’s not always possible to cook everything you want then and there. And those are the times when ZOMATO comes to the rescue.
To begin any journey from scratches to the finished model requires ideas, patience, determination, perseverance, and more. The concept of Zomato seemed very happening. Initially, Deepinder and Pankaj introduced the idea of foodiebay.com, where they listed the menu after scanning.
Firstly, it was for their office people only but seeing very tremendous response they decided to launch a website and make it public. They then listed nearby Delhi-NCR restaurants in it and received a great response, expanded to Kolkata, Mumbai, etc.
It was in November 2010 when they changed the name to Zomato. It was quick but smooth how they extended from being confined to their office walls to being in multiple cities. People found it very convenient to have the scanned menus of all the nearby restaurants. Hence their thing mushroomed really fast.
It was not so far that they decided to provide more convenience to their users when they launched the android application of Zomato.
Even if they were getting tremendous response from people, there was the requirement of funding for their expansion. Their idea really impressed Sandeep Bikhchandani, the founder of Naukri.com, and hence he provided 1 Million USD as funding to them. And since then, there has been no looking back for Zomato.
There are over 100 Million users of Zomato globally, and they use it to know the availability of the best food available in their cities, countries and even continents.
However easy it may sound, it has been a roller coaster ride for both founders. Intending to reach every city, every town and every street, the hard work they had to put in was unparalleled. They left no stones unturned in making what they dreamt for, and hence ZOMATO happened!
